With Werner van Gent and Amalia van Gent
Reading: Anina Jendreyko
Presentation: Angela Schader

Not a day goes by without shocking reports from Turkey. Since mid July 2016, over 160 media and several hundred NGOs have been closed down. Hundreds of members of Parliament, journalists and activists are being detained. How could it come so far? And what are the perspectives for the country, which only a few years ago was seeking rapprochement to Europe? The correspondent Werner van Gent sheds light on the background, Anina Jendreyko reads texts by the renowned writer Asli Erdogan, who was arrested in August and has been invited by the Literaturhaus Basel as writer in residence - as soon as she will be released, which presently does not seem probable.
